INSPIRATION IS EVERYWHERE

Cover of the current issue of Elle Decor

Interior design is one of my strongest influences when designing an event. I am forever inspired by the pages of Elle Decor. Don't get me wrong, bridal magazines and blogs are great resources to see ideas pulled together right before your eyes...but as a designer, I truly get excited when I flip trough the pages of my Elle Decor each month when it's delivered to my doorstep.

Wedding magazines are vastly (sad face) disappearing and my heart would just about stop beating if interior design magazines followed suit. To me, blogs can never compare to the feeling of a magazine in your hands...flipping through the pages, tearing out selects, drooling over the luxury and pining over the flea market finds.

Ladies (and gents) you will find inspiration on every page. It can be as simple as falling in love with the colors on the wall, the texture and lines of a painting, or a fantastic print on a settee...endless possibilities! For example, you can even design an entire event around a single piece of china. If it's hard for you to visualize something like that, Elle Decor has made it easier for you in their current issue, just check out page 164. Also, don't miss page 182 & 183 for some sensational tablescapes.

So when thinking about the design of your wedding or next event, take my advice, try picking up an interior design magazine and see what inspires you. Happy planning!

ADORE...

I have an absolutely lovely couple getting married this weekend at the Brooklyn Historical Society in the Othmer Library...because of that, I have literary and library styled weddings on my mind. I adore these invitations by Letterbox Ink. I'm really starting to think I have an Etsy addiction- HELP!

TURN LOOSE THE ART

Last Friday was the beautiful wedding of the two VERY special people pictured above (nothing is more fun than helping out family and friends, that's for sure). I was excited for their wedding for too many reasons to mention...so I'll just name a couple: 1. Venue, same place my sister got married at over ten years ago and was looking forward to seeing the space in a new way. 2. Britney and Joe from Turn Loose the Art photographing the day. I'm not quite sure when or where I first came across their work, but ever since the first time I saw one of their images I've been addicted. I was so excited to get them on board for this wedding AND a wedding on 10.10.10! Britney and Joe are so talented and I'm endlessly inspired by their images. Click here to see their post on the pictures above, that way you can see the images in their full glory. The fourth picture down is one of my favorites and it turns out one of their wedding guests thought so too and had it framed as a wedding gift...good job! You can also click here to see a sneak peak of the wedding day.

This post would be incomplete if I didn't tell everyone looking for a home in NJ (She's located in Summit, NJ) to check out Christina's agency!

HAPPY LONG WEEKEND

I am beyond amped for this long Holiday weekend. You see, I've been working on a wedding with my favorite florist in the entire world. I can't wait to see all the pieces of the puzzle come together. We have really designed a beautiful fete. I think I have outdid myself. HAHA.

I'm equally excited to share this news with you...

For the first time ever, Stephanie Reinish Photography is offering a 10% discount on ALL COLLECTIONS (not valid on a la carte coverage) for all you go getting 2011 brides (and grooms). That's correct, 10% off ALL collections (oh yea, and it's still 2010 pricing), that's a savings of up to $780. I love Stephanie and all of her images, especially this recent wedding. Anyway, I wanted to do a quick posts for you ladies out there looking for wedding day jewelry. Yeah, yeah, there are plenty of AMAZING places to pick up costume jewelry all over the city, but they might cost you an entire weeks salary! Me personally? I'm addicted to Ruby Lane. Awesome selection of vintage costume jewelry. A quick 5 minute search this morning turned up these beauties above. Image if you gave the site 1 hour?

VENDOR SPOTLIGHT: STACY PITT & SALLY DUVALL

I'm in the process of adding a preferred vendor list to my website and I can't possibly talk about hair and makeup and NOT mention two of the best artists in NYC...Stacy Pitt (hair) and Sally Duvall (makeup). These ladies are an absolute powerhouse duo and a dream to have around on your wedding day. These are my go to ladies...but they are SO SO SO popular that they book up super fast! I've had the pleasure to work with them on many weddings (including my own) and a few photo shoots. I'm really in love with this recent shoot (pictured above) that they did with Heather Waraksa and AAB. So if you are looking for hair and makeup, these will be the two gals at the top of my list :).

DM CELEBRITY HAIR

Sometimes I really have to pinch myself when I stop and realize all the fabulously talented people I get to work with every week. A couple weeks ago I had the immense pleasure of working with celebrity hair stylist DM for the first time. DM splits his time between Palm Beach/Miami, New York and L.A. His creations have filled the pages of fashion and bridal magazines...AND...he has coiffed countless celebrities for red carpet events. DM makes all of his brides look like a movie star icon! If you get a minute check out his website and blog and you'll totally see why he is such a sought-after stylist among the elite and famous. Besides being a hair genius, he is also super funny...just check out the pictures of him in action above!

BEAUTIFUL BLOOM-ISH

Pictures: Click on them for resource

Okay, so it's official...I'm totally ready for fall (and winter). Sorry for jumping ahead of seasons so fast! So now that I have fall on my mind, I've been thinking about design elements I would like to incorporate into some of my upcoming fall events. I've been dying to find a bride that loves the look of kale and cabbage. Any takers? Can't wait to plant some in a planter from Restoration Hardware this fall.

LONGING FOR FALL

Pictures: New Hampshire Woods Creations

With the numerous heat waves we have been having lately, I'm longing for Fall to get here already. Don't get me wrong, I like summer...but I love Fall. New Hampshire Woods Creations on Etsy (my FAVORITE site) has so many wonderful items that you can incorporate into any Fall event. For brides on a really tight budget, you can try one of their lovely dried arrangements that won't break the bank. I would surround them with oodles of candles and you're set!! Additionally, their dried wreaths would be a perfect backdrop for a ceremony or flanked on the doors of your ceremony space. Their fireside potpourri (or another one that better matches your color scheme) would make for an awesome favor. You can also use any of these items for a rehearsal dinner, bridal shower or engagement party. Be sure to check them out today.

CHRYSLER BUILDING

I love everything about NYC. I especially admire the dramatic buildings that shape our skyline, so when my photographer friend Brian DeMello called me with a once in a lifetime opportunity to style a bride on the 61st floor mezzanine of the Chrysler Building with its distinctive eagles...I jumped at the chance!! I then contacted NYC blogger and stylist, Jacqueline Weppner of Merci New York, to help me solidify the look and produce with me.

As an iconic part of the NYC skyline, the Chrysler Building is a masterpiece of Art Deco architecture and one of the finest buildings in Manhattan. We decided to pay homage to the building's design, and style the bride with an Art Deco sensibility, all while keeping the look current and obtainable. I hope that you will enjoy the beauty and grace of our bride soaring above NYC's majestic cityscape. Film Noir meets Gotham City.

A huge debt of gratitude goes out to the following (all of which pulled this together in mere days):

Coordination/Design Bespoke Affairs
Fashion Styling Merci New York
Flowers Poppies and Posies Notice the adorable artichokes that mirror the building's architecture!
Chevron Dress Nicole Miller
Vintage Earrings Gabriella Bridal Salon
Veil and Hair Accessories Bride's Head Revisited
Necklace by Max and Chloe
Makeup Sally Duvall
Vintage brooch, bracelet and earrings from my personal collection :)
Vintage fur from private collection
Model Rashida Harris

A special thank you to Brian DeMello for inviting me along. This was truly an experience that I will never EVER forget.
